Hi Howie--

First off, thanks for the read and response. I used to use IDG a lot when I had clients who needed analyst reports...one of the things the professor and I have talked about is how poor of a job many agencies do in teaching junior people the intricacies of the business. When I have junior people and I want them to pitch a story, I role play each and every time. I cannot tell you how rare that is in this day and age. The other thing that bothers us is how social media has dumbed down the English language. Abbreviations are good for certain things, but not in professional communications. I see instant language in professional communications and I want to scream. Do you have a lot of junior people on your team? How do you handle them?

Many thanks--

Michael Shmarak

I find young pros do struggle with telling a story and providing context. There seems to be an assumption that everyone reading an item has the same understanding as the writer. Layered on top of this is an issue that as young pros they may not have a solid understanding for whom they're writing. I sense more value is placed on being able to work quickly and push out information rather than knowing more about the recipients and taking time to write for them.
